Nembie (2018)

Two months into sixth grade, Nembie thinks he knows well what he’s doing. He’s the smallest boy in his class, and for a year already, since he moved to Lebensfeld with his parents, the favorite target of bully MM and her gang. In Nembie’s imagination however, the world spins in a quite different way: Earth is being invaded by an alien race called Hunters and he, is doing nothing less than learning how to become a fighter using their extravagant powers. Like in cartoons, which Nembie adores but can’t watch because his mother wants him to study. One day, Nembie hits back at MM and gets into trouble. He ends up grounded, but doesn’t give up on his cause. To find solace, Nembie retreats even deeper into his fantasy, part of which is a secret mission to complete at all costs if he’s to fulfill the cosmic destiny promised by Listopad, leader of Hunters. Resolved to confront bullies and parents, but also make sense of what is happening in his head, his body, and his country, Nembie seeks wisdom from his only true friend, witty pensioner Klaus. With Klaus’s help, Nembie hopes to avoid what he doesn’t look forward at all: his birthday party…
